Letter from the Dean
Move in day for the majority of the freshman was August 21 and returning students August 23. The freshmen and their families were pleasantly surprised by the many faculty and staff who showed up to assist them with bringing in their belongings. We have been so blessed to have 203 residents this semester. Last, year in August we only had 168 residents. God has been good and answered Dean Ann and my prayer to fill the residence halls. Many fun and exciting things have taken place through-out this semester. So where do I begin. First, we hired 13 competent and helpful Resident Assistants to work in our various residence halls. Next, we moved Dean Ann over to Meier Hall. Many residents had been requesting to have a Dean live and be more available over in Meier and Hadley. In addition, we asked 6 dedicated young ladies to help keep the residence hall clean. Last, we started a Facebook Page www.facebook.com/hmhwomenshousing so students and parents could access up to date information and see pictures of the various activities. Residents and parents can also follow us on Instagram by adding @swaudormlife to their followers list. Announcements are also made via slides that are rotated on the TV in Harmon Hall lobby. We have participated helping out during Handshake, supervising and monitor several booths as well as in two outreach projects this semester. Worships are another aspect of residence hall life. Monday night is our Resident Assistant wing worship. This is a special time where the residents get together with their RA. On Tuesdays at 12 pm Mrs. Grady has been graciously organizing speakers and a small luncheon for the female residents. At the beginning of the semester about 40 residents were attending. By the end over 70 students make this a weekly routine. In addition we tried something different this semester. On Tuesday evening the residents can turn in a personal devotion sheet to the Dean on duty and get credit. We chose to do this based upon requests made in our residence hall survey. Wednesday night is an extra special worship organized by Dean Ann. All the topics are focused on issues that females face. Each week a guest speaker came and addressed these issues. Last, coed worship on Thursday night is the most attended worship of the week. Approximately 100 – 125 residents attend and participate weekly. As the semester came to a close we geared up for Open House. On December 8 from 8 – 11 pm we had many visitors walk through the dorm. Each hall picked a holiday theme and decorated accordingly. It is with great joy to announce we now have a guest room in Harmon Hall. It sleeps six, has its own bathroom, sitting area/refrigerator, and outside entrance. This guest room will help generate some extra income for the residence hall.
As spring semester approaches, some things that we are looking forward to doing are Secret Sisters and Women's Appreciation Week (most anticipated activity is Christmas in April).
